Pallet Racking Systems
There are many "TYPES" of Pallet Racking Systems in today's dynamic distribution centers. The appropriate system must be designed taking into consideration a few key elements:
- LOAD DATA: Pallet sizes, dimensional data
- DYNAMIC DATA: How fast the product flows in and out of the distribution center
- OPERATIONAL DATA: How the product is put away and picked and by what technology (pallet jack, fork truck, RF picking, pick to light, pickt to tote/box etc...)
- CUBIC DATA: How much needs to be stored and it what configuration
Once these elements are understood then design of the appropriate TYPE:
- Selective Pallet Racking System (Highest level of selectivity and most common design. Double Deep configurations as well.)
- Pallet Flow Racking System (Low SKU counts, high number of pallets per SKU, high throughput requirement, highest level of space savings)
- Push Back Racking System (Medium to high number of pallets per SKU, great space savings)
- Drive In/Through Racking System (Low SKU counts, high number of pallets per SKU, high throughput requirement, highest level of space savings)
- Pick Module Racking Systems (Multi-level picking environment, usually associated with flow rack and case picking or broken case picking
